What is the "Safe" and "Scenic" road route from Coimbatore to Kodaikanal?

  • I know distance from Coimbatore to Kodai is around 200 KM. I would like to know which is the safest road route to kodai from Coimbatore?. I have heard about dacoits on Palani-Kodai road so a bit skeptical about that route. Also has anybody visited/stayed "Villa retreat" hotel in kodai?

    The safe and scenic route from Coimbatore to Kodaikanal is Coimbatore to Karur (on the way to Tiruchi) on NH 67, then Karur to Dindigul and Kodai Road on NH 7 and then Kodaikanal. This route although very safe and very fast because of the quality of the road, is not necessarily as scenic, but very safe even in nights. The other route from Coimbatore to Pollachi, Udumalaipettai and then to Munar on NH 209 followed by Kerala state highway 4 and then NH 49 and Tamil Nadu State Highway 18 to Kodaikkanal is scenic, slightly mountainous, but distance wise shortest and advisable for day driving only. Villa retreat hotel in Kodai is reasonably good
