I've been several times. Stayed in Anjuna,Baga,Cavelossim & Pernem. If youre arriving from Mumbai by train get off at Thivim station, jump in a taxi(cheap) & head for Calangute. Have a look round. If its too touristy for you, head south (or north around Arambol). No need to pre-book hotel, as theres plenty of them. Renting a scooter is a good way to get about, although taxis are cheap if you're not staying long. Places to go :- Bodla zoo, Mayem lake,Old Goa, Chapora fort,Aguada fort, Panaji (large town) & "evening music cruise", loads of old Hindu temples, Dudhsagar waterfalls, Siolim ferry (free) & all the beaches. Like the chilled out locals/tourists/monkeys, weather, scenery, cost & just about everything else except for the giant forest spiders & snakes.

Went for the 1st time in November 2003, been back twice since. Stayed in Candolim 3 times, twice at Silver sands, and once at the Prazeres. Rooms are basic, but at the end of the day you only sleep and shower there. Loved the beaches and shacks, so go there if you like lazing on beaches. Was cheap too, compared to european destinations, but food was really good. 5 people eating and drinking in a restaurant for under £20 can't be argued with, and we over ordered on the food too. There are some good days out aswell, to the waterfalls, but go with a few people in a cab rather than a tour operator, you'll get a better deal. Hope this helps.

I have been to Goa every year for the last fourteen years! Absolutely love the place, but prefer the South to the North as it's quiter. We usually stay at the Taj Exotica, and can whole heartedly recommend that hotel. Eating out is very good (and cheap) especially if you enjoy sea food.

Hi Pete, I went to Goa in 2000, stayed in Pandolim in 3* hotel. Hated it, ended up with a severe chest infection and Pueumonia, as it was very dusty and very crowded. Wouldn't go back, but we are all different and you may love it. Not a very big country, not a lot to see and do if you don't like beach holidays. Hated everyone trying to sell me something all of the time. Care needed with eating and drinking outside Hotel as hygiene standards are poor. Ensure you have all your jabs esp Hepatitis before you go. Sorry to say I can't think of anything I liked. However loved India.

i have! loved it! Went to Hotel Majorda- loved everything about it. Very clean- very exotic, had their own cut off beach part. It was brialliant. I went around December last year- loved it, loved it, loved it. I went all around goa- you can get a tour guide for a few days if you're taking your time to see and plan it accordilgy- great thing is- everything's dirt cheap. Being a tourist- you'll be more inclined to get ripped off- but haggle if you get stopped by the locals.... Overall- you'll love it- especially anywhere you go in the nights/evenings- i forget alot of the places names but alot of the somewhat trendier locals will let you in on a lot of places that are good. Go! Have a wicked holiday!

i have been there 5 times - going for the sixth time in 3 weeks!!! love the climate (of course) the beaches , the shopping , the nightlife . the cheap alcohol , the great food . the atmosphere....but most of all - the PEOPLE! they are so friendly and welcoming , and the other tourists are pretty friendly too - everyone is smiling....unlike in Britain - i go for my dose of sunshine - and sunny smiles :-) Stayed in a hotel near Baga the first couple of times - good location , but love doing the ''live like the locals'' thing now - go shopping for veg in the markets , take it home and cook it , so now rent an apartment or small house..all mine - bliss! Even did the ''kill your own chicken'' thing - pick a chicken in the market , they slaughter it for you out the back....not for the squeamish tho , but VERY fresh!!!...(where do you think the ones in cling film come from???)
