Could you recommend me some good sightseeing areas in / around mumbai?

Anywhere will be OK if they are really wonderful though I'm specially interested in ancient remains.

In Mumbai: Please visit the Kanheri caves (2000 years old Buddhist caves) in the National Park at Borivli. Monday is closed. You can walk all the way up to the highest point. While you are there, take a walk through the forest. It is hot nowadays so go early. You can hire a guide at the Caves for around Rs 200. Nearest station Borivli (East) - about an hr from Churchgate (by train). Especially wonderful in the monsoons. Elephanta island also has ancient Hindu sculpture. Take a ferry boat from Gateway of India, about an hours ride. Again, go early to beat the heat. Out of Mumbai: Karla, Bhaja, Bedsa caves near Lonavla - hot as hell at the moment. Stick to Kanheri, its much better. Lenyadri beyond Malshej Ghat on the Kalyan - Nagar Highway - quite good but very hot at the moment. Enjoy your visit.
