Best Road Trip Wagon?

I am planning a road trip from Mumbai to Mangalore (native) by wagon r / honda city any suggestions?

  • I am planning to take the route of mumbai-pune-bangalore NH8- from hubli U turn and NH 63 - then NH17 - Udipi - mangalore. Do anybody have prior experience on this route or any suggestion for any new route. Any precheck which i need to do? All the comments are welcome :)

  • Answer:

Mumbai--Panvel-Raigad-Chiplun-Ratnagiri-… -Madgaon- Karwar -Mangalore on NH17 is the best route --You can enjoy lot of tourist spots in this belt .If you are not hurry then enjoy one night at Bengurla seabeach near Sawantbari on this route and 30 Km away from Swantbari is a hill station 4000 ft hight called AMBOLI --one of the magnificient place where during rainy season nearly 100 water falls can be seen ,some of them falling on the road itself (Lodging available)

If I were you, I will stay close to the Sea side route. It is scenic and wonderful. Why worry about bad and small roads? Almost anywhere you go in India, you will find such patches on various routes. I have travelled on NH17 several times. Enjoyed it. Ofcourse you need to be alert while driving, but then it is routine with driving. Take a break somewhere along the route. Many times I have preferred a break just inside Goa - Mapuca is a good town to rest with many amenities. You can break your journey earlier at Sawantwadi - nice place and famous for wooden toys industry. Or if you have started earlier and drive longer, even Karwar is a good town to be in ( coastal Karnataka ). There are several scenic spots along NH17. The journey itself will be worth it rather than the destination. Not that Mangalore is not good. Visit the icecream parlour ( multistorey place famous for several flavours ) in the town. And ofcourse several old temples, too. Wish you happy and memorable journey.

Your route is correct. As suggested by the contributor above check your car thoroughly, particularly because of monsoon. The road will be bad at some patches. Plan to have a planned drive with proper rest so that the drive become more of a pleasure than pressure. Your first day break should somewhere near Kohlapur and the second one near Hubli and on the the third day you can reach Mangalore. Have some spare fuse, tool kit (in proper order), safety tirangle, jack, some first aid items and safe drinking water with some biscuits etc. Happy journey.
