I have traveled to India three times, twice with friends and once with family members. There are many restaurants in Kolkata where Halal foods are served. You have to ask Hotel Managers or Taxi Drivers about your requirements and there are hundreds of different options available in Kolkata to meet the food requirements of almost all the religious followers. There are some guest-houses also who caters food and lodging in middle-class home settings. I found the following from internet search: 1. Sanjha Chulha Mr. Asif Ahmad <[email protected]> +(91)-(33)-23455419,32912576; 9830272344,9831008100 88, Nr Science City, Uttar Panchanna Gram,, VIP Nagar, Kolkata - 700100 2. Azad Hind Dhaba Mr. Sujit Singh(Restaurant Manager) +(91)-(33)-24864742,24866475,24865652 12/1, Ballygunge Circular Rd,, Kolkata - 700019 3. Ritz Bengal Mr. Jaswinder Singh(Asst Manger Operation), [email protected], [email protected] +(91)-(33)-25006470; +(91)-9434173678 R B 29, Near HDFC Bank Teghoria Branch, Raghunath Pur VIP Road, Ultadanga, Kolkata - 700067 PS. In India it is a bit difficult to find food those are not oily and/or sticky. Indians prefer lots of oils and flavorings and spices that at first you would like the smell and it would make you real hungry. But as soon as you start taking these greasy food (curry specifically), you would feel that your stomach is revolting and you would feel like there is no space in stomach for one serving...lol Sorry that this is what I found in India, though I liked food prepared in Hotels in Karachi more than what I can get in Dhaka. Anyway, feel free to visit McDonalds or KFC and such fast food places for change of taste once you are overwhelmed with the greasy and fragrant smelling Indian food those may not be good for everyday consumption for the reason of excessive oils and spices used, as mentioned above.
