Is Gangtok very overcrowded in Christmas ?

  • Im from Bombay, and its me and my 2 daughters aged 7 and 11. I wanted to go to Gangtok when there is less crowd and noise. My original plan was to land up in Gangtok on Friday 17th Dec and get out on 22 or 23 before the Christmas season comes in, and then go to the Sunderbans. However, the Sunderbans deal is a large all inclusive deal and non refundable a week prior. As i dont want to risk it i thought why not do Sunderbans first - but then i will be landing up in Gangtok on the 21st Tuesday. Can i expect a mad tourist rush by 23 24th or is Gangtok generally given the miss in the winter cold ? Secondly, is Gangtok a nice place to celebrate Christmas - is there anything special, are there churches and festivity

    Generally in dec is not for tourist season, and its not crowded,if you previously visit any hill station in winter, then its okey, otherwise its not a good idea to travel gangtok with your 7yrs daughter, sunderban is okey, for dec

This is good decession to visit Gangtok after Sundervan but it will be very hectic for the children so enjoy Sundervan and go to 160 km one of the finest sea beach in Digha ,Mandarmani .West bengal tourism will help you at BBD baugh east office near Dalhousie office area .

It appears that Sikkim would experience biting cold in winter. Not a good idea to go with young children. I am told that even the roads are likely to be blocked due to inclement weather. Please check twice before embarking on this trip in winter!
