What are the best eateries in Bangalore?

How is NH4 from Bangalore to Chennai?

  • Has anyone travelled on NH4 between Bangalore to Chennai. How is it compared to NH46? I have used NH4 couple of times and was looking for an alternate route for a change. However, I would like to know how are the various facilities available on NH4 (like eateries, filling stations etc). Thanks, Pranab

  • Answer:

It is a decent highway nothing big to complain. Less traffic compared to NH46, Bangalore- Old Madras Road - Hoskote (30) - Kolar (57) - Palamner (120) - Chittoor (165) - Ranipet (210) - Kanchi (Outskirts) (260)- Sriperumbudur (290) - Chennai (330) Distance - 330 KMS: This is the direct highway (NH4) to Chennai. wide lanes with clear marking and signage. The road has been widened till AP border to 4 / 6 lanes. Decent shoulder available in some stretches. The road surface is excellent, has some nice curves and straights. Good Dhabas, Kamath restaurant near Kolar and other decent eating place available. There is one good Andhra restaurant just before Chittoor with excellent service. No scarcity for filling stations either, better fill before leaving B'lore. Highlights and lowlights: About 5 KM Ghat section near Palamner. Otherwise nothing especially scenic. Just the usual rural landscape and some distant mountain ranges between Chittoor - Ranipet. Happy driving!

It is an absolutely awesome highway. It is up there with the best I would say. You can count the potholes on the road with your fingers. If you have a good car, maintaning 90 + all the way (except for when you cross stretches of Vellore, Hosur, Sriperumputhur) is a distinct possibility. I just drove Chennai - Bangalore , Bangalore - Chennai last week and I feel like I must do it again. The facilities are abundant. No lack of eateries or fueling stations. I don't know about NH 46, but I do know it comes under NIECE, and hence going by their reputation, it must be good too. You can surely try it for a change. I would say, this is the best National Highway in India. I didn't see the quaadrilateral, but the roads in this stretch are golden for sure.
