check these children not to play cricket there. As a citizen of Madras,(we native of Madras, still call it as Madras only, not Chennai,as called now by others,OK), My question is as follows : a) From my childhood, I was playing cricket in Marina sands & whatever I know about cricket, it was from there b) From famous cricket players of yester years& now also, Marina is the backyard (including V'Raghavan,Srikkanth, etc) of their initial stage of cricket c) Most of the children playing cricket at Marina, play it during WEEKENDS ONLY that also morning, afternoon and upto 1500 hrs in the evening only, since they know after that crowd used to come d) Most of the children playing cricket there are from Foreshore Estate,Triplicane,Mylapore,Mandaveli & Santhome,Defence Officers' colony(just to Napier Bridge) area only, as they are nearby to Marina e) As far as I know, for thet last several years, they never troubled any tourist or anybody visiting Marina Beach f) Now, though not playing cricket, I am a FREQUENT COMMUTER OF MARINA AREA (From Parrys Corner to Gandhi Statue, (that is Rajaji Salai&Kamarajar Salai)) as I want to avoid Mount Road(Anna Salai) traffic conjetion over there, as this parellel route is traffic free & at those time I used to witness, even at midday in the scorching heat, illegal 'lovers' sitting on the Marina sands and doing 'what not'!!(You can witness it from the road itself) g) In the early morning & evening(after sunset), you can find all illegal activities there including sale of drugs, 'handjob' professionals, prostititues, homos and what not & Police never bother to check them Now my Question is : Why these children are banned in playing cricket at Marina? Is it appreciable? WHY THE OTHER ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES BEING GOT IGNORED BY AUTHORITIES? Your comments are welcomed.

Nanbarae, neenga enna doorshan la vellai panringala? unga vision main roadla irundu theliva parkuduae adhaan ketaen! Just teasing you! Ignore it. Coming to the fact! This is not new to us! Problem started when they started building samadi's to mortal beings. Next will be K's and followed by J's. I agree with other answers, beach is not a place to play cricket. Local schools should have their grounds open for such activity, and encourage kids playing some sort of games rather than watching TV or video games. Beach is were people come to relax with families/friends and play with little kids by building a small sand castle. Now a days you can't even touch the sand because you don't know what you will be touching (used as toilet during early morning and late nights). Accidents/injuries are common in any games and batsmen running between wickets also spray sands while they are running and end-up in someones food packet. Moreover it will expose kids to illegal activities in their young age. Police gets bribe from such action and it goes to local station SI, Inspector, AC and MLA. Rowdies who run the show have no fear and when there is a problem, they will show up in moment notice and threatens the person who lodges a complaint against them. We all expect govt to do something, they have enough problem in their hand and these things are definitely not on their priority list. They may take action during election time but ignore them after they come to power. There are plenty of petty thiefs, chain snatchers in that area too and local police knows all their information in finger tips, for what not to help the public but to cut their share from the snatch. How do you identify real couples and illegal couples? Real couples going to beach and getting treated like illegal couple will be their worst nightmare and they will avoid going out! Moreover and they can't go in groups always. Regardless of their legal status, no sexual acts should be performed in public. What about small shops, it should be moved to the road on in sand. So police cannot handle such volume of human rights case with this kinda infra structure. College boys/girls, School boys/girls bunk their classes and visit beach too! You can see them sometime walking daringly with uniform, and police should catch them and send information to both parents and have them sign documents saying next time this will be treated as brothel case. Probably legally wedded couple should carry some sort of identification with them all time. We already have drivers license, ration card, voters card, add 1 more (I don't prefer this idea). There are some couples (1 or 2) who really don't have enough privacy to talk at home (joint family problems), they should really use beach for communicating with each other. This is not about one law banning illegal activities, it is about how to implement that. Probably put some under cover cops who reports directly to Deputy or commissioner all times. Sometimes they have to deal bad comments/law suits on behalf of treating innocent public too! I appreciate the ban, because it is for the safety of kids and benefits the kids more by not exposing to illegal activities.

Its a healthy thing only., see,all our enjoyments can't be restricted unless it seems as trouble to some1., MARINA is one of the famous beach in India and there were lot of tourists coming 2 visit it daily., But won't realize the importance of that ban until u become a father of some 2 r 3 children.,it really irritates those who are coming with family there and it is creating lot of accidents.,so pl z,guys co operate. Rather than that,I think u might have known about Chennai City corporation's plan of installing costly street and designer lights in and around marina.,so one can't admit playing cricket in such places/.,

Good move , benefit for the public though it is disspointing for kriket lovers. the problem was you cannot park the vehicle, you cannot drive thru service road..... not sure when and from which direction you are going to get a hit. All other illegal activities also to be cleaned step by step. Also it is high time to promote sports grounds for encouraging other sports. criket is over dominating our life than what it deserve.

Some people have been injured during "beach cricket" , especially when cork balls are used . Rare , but it happens . Not all cricket lovers care for the public (even though the majority of them do ) . Anyway , the government has allowed some nearby grounds for cricket lovers after it banned beach cricket . shouldn't that be sufficient for cricket lovers ? Now , coming to your core question . It is a well-known fact that many policemen get more money from illegal activities than they get from their actual salary . That is why they ignore drugs ,etc . A share of this illegal money also goes to the politicians. Now why would they ban something which brings them so much money ? The authorities want a better image , so they go for the relatively soft targets , like beach sports . The people who object to this are usually small groups of individuals . The people in power can easily afford to ignore such small groups .

I welcome the ban and appreciate the Mayor. Please remember the ban on public meetings in Seerani Arangam. How good it is after that? As city's face changes some of the restriction should be accepted. 50 yrs before cattles, rickshaws and carts were common in mount road. Morever, the govt tries to beautify the beach to international standard. If you are still playing cricket then the beach is for Chennaities not to the world. I will welcome if, though it is impossible, govt removes the memorials, library, swimming pool and shops from the beach to make it beach again. However, govt can provide play areas for the games that don't hurt publics and tourists (Games like skating, cycling, jogging, children's play area)
