What is the process of getting Driving license – DL, (Learner’s License - LL) in Bangalore (India). Is it same in Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune and other cities in India or different? Is going through an RTO agent is a good idea ?

Answer:
First of all find an applicable RTO for your location in Bangalore. Bangalore has 5 RTOs. • Get application form - CMV 2 (get from RTO, agent or download from internet) • fill the form in full • attach residential proof (keep original for verification) • attach age proof (keep original for verification) • attach 3 copies of passport size photo (keep a separate small paper / plastic bag which can be pinned with application form) • Go to RTO office Driving License section. • Pay Rs 30 fees for 1 category license - you can apply for multiple categories as well (fees as on March 08) • Stand in a queue for Learning License (try to be there around 9 am so you are among first 10 people - be ready to wait for 60 to 90 minutes) • Show form, fees receipt and all documents, get it signed by officer • Rush to test for road signal and signs (be ready to wait for 30 to 90 minutes) • Appear in test and get it clear • get Learning license on same day or next day Process, forms etc are same across India. Some of small things like how they attend each candidate, how they form a queue may be different in different cities. You can use your waiting time to learn and remember road signals. Those are available at each RTO on big board. Please don’t pay anything to agents as they may charge you Rs 400 to Rs 800. You need to stand in queue even after paying this amount.
