What is a Yahoo Widget?

What happened to yahoo widget engine for U3? I can't seem to find the download for it anymore?

  • When I first got my U3 flash drive, Yahoo Widgets was one of the first things I downloaded. I gave a U3 drive to a friend of mine and introduced him to the widget concept. But when he tried finding the download for the U3 compatible widget engine, he could not find it. It no longer exists on the U3 download site or any place else I could find. Did Yahoo and U3 have a falling out?

    My guess is that the Widget Engine didn't qualify as a standalone u3 program. Although it ran from the usb flash drive, it still needed to write to the host computer's registry. So, personal configurations were not saved unless security settings permitted registry editing. Everytime the key is inserted into a new computer the initial license agreement and default widgets are displayed. I haven't used any other u3-approved programs that have needed to write to the registry.
