Is buying things on ebay safe?

I'm thinking about buying a gamecube (yes I know it's outdated), but could the gamecube on ebay be broken when I buy it? or does ebay check to see it works.

its up to u to do ur homework. no ebay does not check. the mechandise that is sold there is in the homes of hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. did the seller state that it works? did they give a money back guarantee? on a lot of electronic products, just because it works when its mailed, doesnt necessarily mean that it will work once the postal service gets done with it. did u check the feedback of the seller? ive bought many different types of items for severall years off ebay. did get 3-4 sellers that sent me crap--and it was coins...out and out fraud. i had to file on one--got my money back thru paypal. worked it out with 2 sellers--cost me return shipping. shud have filed. just 'ate' the last one. gave him a big, fat negative when he wudnt even respond to my complaints. he had no prob b4 i spent my money. too late to make a long story short, but examples go a long way. u wud b paying thru paypal, meaning if some1 does try to deliberately shaft u, u can file a complaint.... what is the link? can offer an opinion. added-- overall my ebay experiences have been phenomenal. the sellers have been more than great. think i'll play with my last purchase--a colecovision. (: it didnt work when it ffirst got here, but i had no doubt it worked at the time the seller put it in the box. he did communicate with me...it started working out of the blue (not user error, either. i play retro games all the time :) dont really know what wud have happened--i wud have hated to file against him, but i paid a pretty penny for it. the fact is he was working with me--& i blv he wud have refunded my money, minus s&h. ALSO there r a lot of dishonest BUYERS out there. they may break an item, or out an out switch it, then try to get their money back. not trying to discourage you IN THE LEAST BIT. fyi

Make sure the seller offers returns, they have a good feedback score, and that you pay with Paypal (they offer buyer protection in case of a misrepresented item) and you will be fine.
