Ebay bidding question?
-
Alright, so on ebay when I bid on something, this always happens: Me: *Places bid* Then the screen changes and it says you have just been outbidded, and it happens instantly. So I place another bid, and the same thing happens instantly. What's going on? The item isn't popular and it's only myself and another person bidding on it. I'm kind of confused ^^;

Answer:
the other person has a higher max bid, until you bid more then their max bid you will get outbided automatically.

Every time a bid is made it cancels the one before, if a bid is places for £10 and the increments are £1 and I place a bid for £15 it shows as £11 but I am still the highest bidder. If you then place a bid you will get a message saying you have been outbid. Always best to bid the amount you would pay at first then if you are outbid it does not matter

When a person bids on an item they may have bidded far higher than the said bid (happens often if the person is away from computer during auction end time and would like a max bid to go up to), but ebay will display the amount that secures the item for the bidder. e.g item current price = £100 Person A bids = £130 item current price changes = £102 so if you bid £104 his bid will then go up to £106 automatically. you wont become the highest bidder until you pass his £130 max bid.

If it is something that you really want you can bid up to the amount you are prepared to pay. Say it is an article that you are prepared to pay £20 for then you put in a bid of that amount. The bids only go up at a certain rate. If someone else puts in a bid of £5 it will tell you them they have been outbid and this will continue until they go in at £20.01. Hope this helps.

They're either using automatic bidding through ebay or a better program such as Auction Sniper. Basically, they enter in the highest amount of money they want to pay. This way, when you bid an amount lower than their max bid, it automatically bids [their desired interval] higher. Cheap, right?

On ebay you can set a maximum amount that you're willing to bid on an item and ebay will automatically bid for you up to that amount. Whats happened is that the other person has set a maximum bid higher then your bid.
