Some major problem with paypal?

PayPal/eBay problem- unactivated paypal account?

I bought a skating dress on ebay with paypal, and it said payment accepted and all. But when I returned to my account summary on eBay, it always says that I haven't payed for the dress, and that it is still awaiting payment. Then I realised though I registered my credit card details on paypal, I actually didn't activate the account (when they send you an email with the 'activate now' button, I didn't do it)- so I payed for the item with an unactivated paypal account. Does this mean that the money wasn't charged to the credit card, and thus, should I 'buy' the item again with the activated paypal account? I tried contacting ebay customer support but they were very unhelpful (their customer support just refers you back to the website -.-)
