Ebay problem.. please help?
-
okay so i listed an item on ebay. it was a digital camera i bought for $110 just before my birthday, but then on my birthday i got a better one so i didnt use the one i bought. six months later and it's still sitting in the box. now that i'm moving house, i figure i'd put it on ebay with my stuff and get some money back for it. i listed it as only been used once (which it had - i tested it only) and that it was 6 months old. i posted clear pictures, showing the camera's condition and the price tag. i sent it off exactly as i had bought it, in it's original condition - box, accessories, the whole lot. mind you it only sold for half the price i paid. the person has been emailing me over ebay for hours now, complaing that the item was 'not as described' and that it's scratched and makes weird noises. however, before i sent the camera off it was in perfect condition, without scratches and didnt make any noises or whatever. the person is demanding a full refund including postage costs, even though i selected the 'no returns accepted' option on the listing. i've tried explaining this to the buyer over and over yet he won't listen. he said that if i refunded the money back except for $20, he'd drop it. but i refused - i'm not selling a $110 camera for $20!!! that's just crazy. anyways after all this back and forth rubbish, i simply said that he clearly didnt bother reading the listing properly and that it was his responsibility as a buyer to make sure he was certain about it etc. he's now saying he is going to take it up with ebay/paypal etc.. what on earth do i do?! i have a 100% feedback on ebay and nothing has ever happened like this before but now i'm really worried.. i posted this twice due to category confusion. :)

Okay, I have been in the same situation. Don't accept what he wants, he's one of many of the nasty mean people who are trying to get over on your sale. I would say, to please check the contents of the camera to make sure he hasn't mistakenly confused your item for someone else's as it was stated that the camera is in NEW condition. New means that it wasn't used just tested to make sure it works. If this fails request he return the camera and that you will refund him his money. Now, if it isnt escalated yet, and hopefully it's not refund him his money less the shipping charges, and you should tell him this in advance. If he sends you the camera with no tracking number then you can claim you never got the camera and you can basically take revenge. I feel for you I know how it is - this is why I stopped selling on Ebay, the frustration of dealing with the public can make you old real fast, or as in my case older.

Basically you don't stand a chance, you need to get your camera back and give the buyer their money back or this person is going to make a lot of trouble for you.

Part of being an Ebay seller is understanding that sometimes you just can't win. Experienced sellers understand this and usually have a policy of full refund, no questions asked, immediately. I'd advise you to do the same. There's no way to prove you are right and the buyer can invoke the Ebay or Paypal guarantee, get a refund from them and tarnish your reputation and maybe your right to make future listings. It's just part of the game, and the key is to be straightforward with all transactions and accept that sometimes, there is no justice.
