How to confirm payment on eBay?

Question about ebay?

  • i am looking to buy a 2004 subaru STI and the girl that i am buying it from wants to do the transaction through ebay(i found the car on autotrader.com). im not to sure how ebay works and this is the letter that she wrote me, i was just wondering if this seems odd or fishy in any way. please let me know what you think. she is selling the car for only $4350. wierd huh? she said that it was her husbands and in the divorce she got the car cuz it was regesterd in her name. Hi, Nice to see that you’re still interested in buying. If we reach an agreement, the car will be delivered directly to your address. It will be shipped by truck and it will take about 5-6 days to reach your address. The car is already sealed in a container along with all the necessary documents in San Jose, CA (ebay HQ) and is ready to be shipped for inspection/testdrive and/or to be bought. Everything has been paid for (inspections, shipping, staff, insurance, etc.) so you won't have to pay for anything else than the car. To speed up the process I’m telling you in advance that for payment we should use eBay's security for such transactions. The transaction will be fully under eBay's surveillance, giving us both security and insurance that nothing will go wrong. They will be the 3rd objective party involved in the transaction. This way you will actually pay for the car after you will receive and test it, because eBay will hold the funds in an escrow account and release it to me only after you accept and confirm the delivery. After the car reaches your address you will have 5 days to see and test it. Within this period you have to decide if you purchase it or not. If you decide to take it you will have to contact eBay and let them know that, so they can release the payment to me. If you won't like it you will have to ship it back to me within the 7 days and eBay will refund you. The shipping back will be done on my own expense, but I am sure this will not be the case. To start the transaction with eBay, I will need the following details in order: Full name: Address: Phone number: All the best

  • Answer:

RUN!!! SCAM!!! Ebay is just a venue to sell stuff. They have nothing to do with the money or transactions for that matter. You may want to go to eBay's Answer Center to ask experts, but you need a valid eBay ID. Don't give this scammer any info!!

I would say that this is a scam. If you're selling an item on eBay--any item--you do NOT ship it from eBay headquarters. You ship it from where ever you are. This person clearly knows nothing about selling on eBay. If everything here seems too good to be true, it probably is.

That all sounds great. If I were you I would research E-Bay to ensure that everything she says is accurage though. Hope it all works out well.
