Need help with major buyer trouble on ebay :(?
-
I sold a Wheels and Dollbaby dress on eBay last week. I bought the dress brand new, it was an impulse purchase which I have regretted ever since! I have not worn the dress, it is new with tags. Tried it on once, and that is all. It has since hung in my closet while I have attempted to sell it several times on eBay. It sold for $172.50, which I am sort of disappointed in because it was $375. Anyway, I received the payment, all was fine, and I sent it express post on Monday. On Tuesday, I received a message through eBay on Tuesday. The message was as follows: Hi M***********e, I received the item today via expressed post and unfortunately I am extremely disappointed with the dress. The dress has a major fault which is a very noticable pull approximately 50 cm long, an inch from the zipper. In addition, at the bottom of the zip the stitching has come apart (when you turn the garmet inside out it looks as though someone has tried to mend the dress but not very successfully!!). I would not have made a bid on this dress if these faults had been included in your description. You have indicated that the dress has never been worn but this is clearly not the case. I would appreciate it if I could please return the item as I believe it is only fair that any faults with a garment should be included in the description (any perspective bidder would assume that there are no faults when an item is described as brand new). Please contact me on 0********5 so that we can discuss this further. Kind regards J***e I happen to know, because I carefully examined the dress myself...that there was nothing wrong with it. I am incredibly upset by this claim. I'm an honest person, just trying to make a bit of money back on a dress that I wish I had never bought. I have never worn it, I have no idea what she is talking about, regarding the attempted "mending". I have no idea how to mend anything! I have asked her to send me pictures, and she claims that she has "proof" because there were other people present when she opened it. I don't know what to do. I carefully folded and wrapped the dress before sending it, and I believe if the pull had been "very noticeable", I would have noticed it! If the dress is damaged, what can I do about it? I really do not want to refund her money, because the dress was not damaged when I sent it. Unfortunately, I don't have any proof of this. I used the store picture of the dress in the listing, because it was brand new, and as seen in that picture. My bad, but I have never sold anything on eBay. Anyway, I have no idea what to do. What's the worst she can do if I refuse to refund her money? I don't believe this is my problem, because the dress was thoroughly examined before being sent, and was in perfect condition. Please help!!

Answer:
Worst case: She can file a dispute with eBay and or PayPal. Item not as described. Both eBay and PayPal will tell you to accept a return and refund the money. If you refuse PayPal will do it anyway. That's the bottom line. It sucks I know.

Unfortunately its your word against hers. I would apologise that she is unhappy but insist the dress was unworn & in the described condition as per your listing. Maybe she might be happy with a partial refund? Also dont imply she caused the damage. Just be honest & kept the lines of communication open. Who knows what would happen if she should open a dispute, item not as described disputes can be tricky & paypal will probably side with her unfortunately. Still insist on the photos as you need to see the fault for yourself. If it was me I would try for a partial refund (enough to cover repair costs) Good luck
