Can i use my debit card with visa logo on it for online shopping ? if i can use it then how?

I got a new debit card but when i am trying to buy online its said that your card is refused by bank however i have contacted bank and they said that i have to register my card with verified by visa, and i did that but still recieving that message. so please help me wether i can buy with debit card online. i have experiance with credit card it worked fine, is there any defference between debit card and credit card? if its possible to use debit online then please explain me how???
Answer:

You use a debit card exactly the same way as a credit card. The difference is that with a Credit card you get a bill each month, with a Debit card payments are taken directly from your bank for each transaction - and if you don't have the money in the bank, the transaction will be refused. In effect, it's an alternate to a cheque for paying something from your bank. If it is not working as it should, contact the helpline number given on the back of the card - it may still need activating.
