Has anyone ever sold any items on ebay?
-
i've just turned 18 so i'm finally allowed to sell things on ebay. so, i'm looking into selling some things, but i've never sold anything and never really had a reason to go to the post office to send packages. so, i was just wondering whats the process? do i go to the post office with my things and ask for a box or large envelope for my items BEFORE i list my items? or do i go after. do they package things for you? do they label the boxes for you? and do they ship it the day you bring it to the office? or do you schedule a certain date...and how does that whole tracking thing work? sorry, i'm so new to this! any help?

Answer:
Okay, getting your shipping rates correct is very important when selling on ebay so you don't rip yourself off. You have to decide what type of shipping you are going to use, be it post office, UPS etc. You can go to the post office and get the free priority mail boxes and anything that will fit in the box under 70 lbs. will ship anywhere in the U.S. for the price listed - you have to allow for packing materials in the box to know if it will fit - this is also more expensive for the buyer, as these are pretty high priced - good for small heavy items though. You can get your own boxes and weigh each item and packing and use the shipping wizard on ebay ( it's right above where you put the shipping price in when listing an item ) and get the price that way as well. I do a combination of things - use some priority mail boxes for some items, buy boxes from Uline.com for some items, get free boxes from local stores and reuse them. I weigh each item and use the shipping wizard to get my shipping fee for each item that I list so I am not charging too little or too much. So it's really up to you which method to use, but the main thing is to make sure you charge the correct amount for each item so you aren't shorting yourself or overcharging the customer. And no, you have to label your own boxes no matter what method you use. When your item sells, click on it and a page will come up, click on "order details" and a page will come up with buyer's name and address on it - go to the right hand side of that page and you will see "printer version", click on that and a printable page will come up - print that out and you have a name and address you can cut out and tape onto your package, and save the rest of the page for your records, staple your shipping receipt to it. Or you can print labels from paypal too, if you need assistance from them call 1-888-221-1161. As far as tracking goes, you have to get delivery confirmation from the post office, this costs an additional 70 cents per item, make sure you include that in your shipping fee. With UPS etc. it is included in the price already. Again, a decision you have to make.

im 17 and i started at 15! i used my dads account and well you get the item and press sell on ebay, you will have to make a ebay and paypal account, and they have demos on how to sell for your first time, but you describe your item weigh and measure it and you can choose to print out a label and put your item in a box and tape the label on and drop it of at a usps store there are many options so describe your item find out shipping costs automatic/manual price, bid witch can go up or buy it now whitch is imideate you set the time it will end, buy it now will end it early normally well i know your probally confused by what i said but look for demos and just mess around and try stuff, but nothing illgeal or they will remove your item or account IN CONCLUSION yes ive sold things and you can just look for first time demos on ebay, you work out shipping after item is sold (you will need to weigh and measure ahead of time) you can set up an automatc thing to print out shipping label. you can buy your box or use your own. whatever! The post office offers flat rate boxes and envelopes. Make sure you know which one your item fits in before listing a shipping price. Oh, and the good part, those boxes are free :) And, you can order them from www.usps.com. Label the package before you go. They should ship the day or the very next day you drop them off, depending on what time you drop off the package. I always buy a delivery conformation (70 cents), which has a tracking number on it, which you can track via the website, or a 1-800 number. Good luck
