Ebay Bidding Question?

Question about snipe bidding on ebay?

  • There is an item on eBay that I am extremely interested in, however, I already bid on it Saturday night and since then, I have remained the high bidder. Just last night, I read up on snipe bidding and I was annoyed with myself because in order for snipe bidding to work, you must make your first and last bid a few seconds before the auction ends and if you're lucky, you will have knocked the high bidder down and you win the item. My issue is that I am currently the high bidder and will still probably be until tomorrow night when the auction for the item is nearly over and I know someone is waiting to snipe me at the last minute b/c this item had 22 bids and since I bid Saturday, everyone else has stopped, so I know they're waiting. My question is, can I increase my max bid (if I'm still the high bidder a few seconds into the ending time) 6 or 7 seconds before end time and have it be as effective as a regular sniping method, where I must not be the high bidder and bid in the last few seconds to win against the high bidder? Right now, my current bid is at $680, with my max bid at $690 and I'm the high bidder. If I still am in the lead within seconds of the closing time, I intend to increase my max bid to $1,000 about 6 seconds before end; that is as much as I can afford and put out. Would this be a bad move? Would I have to Make another ebay account to snipe myself lol last minute if increasing my max bid last second is a bad idea? Sorry for the long story, I am very new to eBay. Any tips and advice would be much appreciated.

  • Answer:

You can increase your max bid anytime you want to before the auction ends - even in the last second. If you want to win using sniping technique then don't bid an even round number such as $1000 - that's what someone else is thinking too. Bid $1001.26 and you'll beat out that last-minute $1000 sniper but might get beat by the guy bidding $1003.52 Some people are very skilled at sniping though and 7 seconds gives them enough time to come in and get you. Sniping only works if nobody can sneak in after you bid. And, some people use computer programs that do it very close to auction end time. Snipers only care about being high bidder at the end of the auction. Who is high bidder any other times just doesn't matter. In fact, you'd like for nobody to be running up the bids if you'd like to get it for the best price. Add: the point in bidding in the last second is so that nobody else can come in and outbid you right before the auction ends. That's what sniping is. If you make your max $1000 now then anyone else can come in and outbid that. If you wait then other people think it's maxed at $690 and will bid $700.

There is no more "snipe bidding" on ebay anymore, thats why the max bid format is in place..when you place your max bid like you have it at $690 with that bid in place it will automatically bid the nxt person up until you have reached your max..i would just change your max bid to $1000 right now as there is no point in changing it 6sec before the end of the auction...make sense??
