Is it safe to use paypal to buy an eBay item without going through eBay?

  • This guy on eBay wants me to directly pay him with paypal. The item is on eBay but it wont be going through ebay. He said something about invoice. He said he couldn't list another one because of selling limits. What is the invoice he was talking about? Do you think this whole thing is safe?

    DON'T, I REPEAT, DON'T DO THAT. He's definitely going to scam you. When you buy something on eBay, the site will redirect you to paypal and you can review your order.

That definitely sounds suss to me, and eBay strictly advises against such transactions. I'd steer clear of this guy before you get ripped off, because if you do, eBay can't help you recover your money (since the transaction occured outside of eBay).

Is there any incentive in doing it this way for you? The major reason that eBay advises against this is because they'll loose 9% commission --- not just on the sale but on shipping as well. eBay has turned into a real blood sucker. If your credit card is linked to your PayPal account there won't be a problem. If PayPal doesn't come thru --- you can still do a charge-back with your CC company.
