How to return the ebay purchase?

Is this a risky Paypal purchase?

  • I want to make a purchase with paypal on etsy (for a jewellery item) but the seller has not stated a return policy and I want to be sure that IF the product is not as good as it seems to be, I can return it for a refund and avoid getting scammed. I turn to paypal's buyer complaint policy (since that's for non-ebay purchases) and find this: "PayPal Buyer Complaint Policy: This policy applies to purchases that are made on non-eBay websites, or eBay websites that do not offer policies similar to this PayPal Buyer Protection Policy. This policy only applies to claims of "item not received". " 'Item not received' huh....but what if I receive it, and it turns out to be a piece of junk? The photos the seller offered could be misleading me. Is there nothing I can do to ensure I won't get ripped off? I want this item bad, it's exactly what I've been on the hunt for, but I am not in the mood for getting ripped off. What should do, and how can I protect myself from a sour purchasing experience?

First, check out the seller's feedback. That should give you a good idea of what other buyers have thought about the items. Also, have you checked the shop policies section? You said they didn't state a return policy, but most sellers don't state that in the item listing because it's in their policies section, so be sure you've looked there. If you've already done that, then I'd suggest you contact the seller through Etsy's convo system and ask about the return policy. You don't have to say you're afraid the item will be junk, but you could say that you're worried it won't be quite what you want and you're hesitating on making the purchase because you don't know the return policy. In my experience, most Etsy sellers are interested in making sales and keeping customers happy, so even if they don't normally take returns, they may be willing to work something out with you to get the sale.

Contact the seller and ask any questions you may have, including return policies. You can also ask to see additional photos of the item. If the seller is serious about selling the item, then they should be happy to do whatever they can to assist you :)

The first thing to do is to check out the seller's feedback. There should be a link on the left side of their show that will show that, if hey have any. See what other folks have had as an experience. Paypal has other options besides just the "item not received" issue; check out their HELP link here: https://www.paypal.com/helpcenter/main.jsp;jsessionid=JLbRTy7f9cr8lPdJV7Jb1YMTQmH5s1X2JT3pKNFhd2pSGLQ6QQ6L!1664591528?locale=en_US&_dyncharset=UTF-8&countrycode=US&cmd=_help&serverInstance=9018&t=solutionTab&ft=searchTab&ps=solutionPanels&solutionId=206797&isSrch=Yes Sorry for the long link, but that is how Paypal does them. If you don't feel secure clicking it, go to Paypal, click HELP (top center) and type "different description" in the search box - it will take you to their description of that type of complaint you can make. Also, read what etsy itself has to say about it: http://www.etsy.com/help/article/35

Sadly its a gamble. Nobody has to give a refund unless the item is faulty or miss sold. You could just ask politely if u can return it if it turns out to be not what you expected. Or ask for more photos and dimensions so you have more of an idea what you're buying.

If you are purchasing through any site but Ebay, Paypal will ONLY refund you if the item is not received. Period. If the item is fake, broken, not as described, etc you are stuck with it and Paypal will not refund you There is NO way I would use Paypal to pay for anything that is not listed on Ebay. If the item is a piece of junk you are stuck with it no matter what Your only recourse would be that you'd have to travel to the seller's state/county and sue them in their local small claims court to recoup your money. But your travel expenses, hotel, court fees, etc are probably going to cost you more than what you lost in value
