How reliable is eBay?

How reliable is Ebay?

  • I mean, can people say something is unused even if they have worn it? How do people sell loads of new things on Ebay? Do they run their businesses through Ebay instead of setting up their own website?

  • Answer:

ebay itself is reliable. Just make sure that you research the seller. Check their feedback rating, 30 day dsr stars, if they have multiple of the same thing, READ the ENTIRE listing. If you're wanting to buy a item and the price seems to good to be true, it usually is. For the poster who said that if they use an item once or twice and still list it as new. It is not new, it is used and must be listed as such. New = New with tags attached, never used New without tags attached, you bought the item, took the tags off and NEVER used it. Also NWOT (new without tags)

Yes people do! It is very reliable and safe aslong as you use PayPal! I wouldn't pay or receive payment any other way!

If something has never been worn, I'll describe it as new. If it's been used even once or twice, I'll still list it as new, but make sure that in the description it's mentioned that it has been worn once but it's still AS NEW

Ebay is about as reliable as a blunt toothpick on fire. Sure, there are sometimes when items on Ebay are sold as described, but there are people out there with broken items, selling them as new. E-bay is NOT the way to buy.

have never had an unresolvable issue buying or selling on ebay, you get what you pay for, if you are not paying new prices dont expect new

As a buyer and seller on ebay myself, i have rarely had an issues, most sellers are honest, just check their feedback out if you are unsure. People often run their business through ebay, or as an extra part of it. If you pay by paypal (especially if you use a credit card linked to it) you will be covered. Happy bidding!

Many Ebay sellers make a living purely off Ebay and rely on good feedback and a good reputation. They wont want to jeopardise this by ripping you off. However there are some people out there who will try to con you Of the 100+ items I have bought from Ebay only 1 has not arrived but I received a refund and 1 arrived broken, and again I received a refund. By in large eBay works, however you do need to take some precautions and use your common sense. Read the descriptions carefully, make sure what is being described is want you want. Its easy to misread what someone is selling and think you are getting something you are not. Always check the person’s feedback. I generally will not buy from someone who has less then 98%. Look at a persons negative and neutral feedback and see if there are any patterns. I prefer sellers that have a good recorded and have sold at least a few hundred items. Have a look at what the seller has sold before, have they sold similar items. I’m always suspicions of someone who has sold a lot of very cheap items and is then trying to sell one very expensive item. Learn to spot fakes, if some one is selling something for £10 which usually sells for £100 it is probably a fake, if you don’t mind owning a counterfeit then buy it, however if you want the real thing then don’t touch it. If something looks to good to be true it probably is. Basically just use your common sense.
