Can someone on ebay rip you off?

EBay fakes and counterfeits.?

  • I buy silver jewellery to refurbish. I'm sick of trawling through eBay and seeing listing after listing of obvious (and illegal) fakes. Not just designer names such as Tiffany & Co but straight forward "silver" bracelets and bangles, listed illegally as sterling silver but clearly not (at a couple of pounds). I get so annoyed that people continue to sell tons of these and rip people off. I am constantly on the warpath and report all these items to eBay, I also report large offenders via the eBay chat system directly to customer services. My point is, eBay never seem to do anything about it. The con men are running wild ripping people off without any recompense (and not just silver - everything). Whenever I challenge someone about it, I invariably get an email telling me to F* off. I report it of course, but eBay don't do anything about this either. So my question is this.... Have you ever reported a fake (or anything else) listing .....AND ITS ACTUALLY BEEN REMOVED AS A RESULT. please let me know and restore my faith in eBay (an humanity). Dave. (Mr Angry of Morecambe)

I started on Ebay at the very beginning. It was such fun. Like one big world yard sale. Ordinary people. Then it started getting large, and I noticed things like your talking about. My pet peeve was fee evasion by (obviously) companies. Which meant... ordinary housewife selling grandmas figurines was paying the lions share to keep ebay going. Example: Oriental Rugs 99 cents Shipping 2400.00 Ebay would tell me.. they can charge what the want for shipping argghh. Its the principal of the thing.. I dont care if Ebay looses money or not Its cheating. I never knew them to crack down on anyone, but eventually they made that aspect more prominent in their rules. People were suspended. Just one thing and it starts getting under your skin ! I get tired of the little guy carrying all the load. Ebay has hurt itself in all of this. and the people who get cheated.

I've never gotten anywhere with eBay. I have a couple of very specialist interests and am sometimes on the lookout for something very specific. Often I used to see an item listed then, a few hours later, see the same photos and text appear on a listing from another country; an obvious scam. I'd inform the original seller but I never tried to find out what the outcomes were. Basically, I very, very rarely use eBay now and only with sellers I know or have recommended.

No but from the sound of it you should copy all the info and proof that they haven't taken them down and sue ebay for allowing these counterfeiters to sell fake products and not doing anything about it. Then maybe they will actually start doing it.

I don't buy stuff off eBay. I mean I never have but I would if I needed to. The shipping prices are too damn high lol :) But I would say, keep away from them (that seem obvious) I mean if they get no bids/purchases, hopefully they will stop selling those items.
