Is it safe to buy a used LCD or Plasma HDTV?

I m thinking to buy a hdtv what would u prefer a plasma or a lcd. which screen size & which brand under $1100.

ACTUALLY I M PLANNING TO BUY A HDTV . SHOULD IT BE WITH AN ATSC TUNER OR NOT. I would get an LCD tv since most content is still in SD. Plasmas can still have burn-in. I'd go with a Sony Bravia. Sharps downscale 1080i before upscaling again. Samsungs have something called DNI which you can't turn off. Many people say this degrades the picture.
