Is there such a thing as "Yahoo! Autos Vehicle Purchase Program?"?
-
After sending an e-mail question to a seller on "Auto Trader", I was sent an e-mail from "Yahoo!Autos". Here it is: *(I changed his name for privacy purposes): "Dear Customer, Seller John Smith ([email protected]), has selected Yahoo! Autos Vehicle Purchase Program to handle a secure online transaction with you." Is this legit? This person said he was out of the country in the military, and that Yahoo!Autos was selling his vehicle for him, and the car is at "Yahoo! Autos Shipping Center (Philadelphia, PA)". He gives them power of attorney, and they put a down payment in a Trust Account, ship me the car at sellers expense, then I have 10-days to see if I want it. If not, seller pays to have it shipped back, and Yahoo Autos refunds my deposit. If I want to Keep it, I send the rest of the money to Yahoo Autos, and they handle all the Title paperwork and send it to me. Does this really exist? Does Yahoo!Autos really offer this kind of service? Please Help!

Answer:
Don't fall for it. I received a similar email stating the same thing. So I did a little research and found that this was the latest shipping scam going around. Yahoo! does not have an auto shipping center. Here is the website where I find out about this scam. The details mentioned are identical to what you have stated. http://blogs.cars.com/safe/2007/03/latest_shipping.html If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Yahoo! is not a brokerage firm and has nothing to do with the actual sale or shipment of any vehicle posted on its site. When you inquire about a vehicle on Yahoo! Autos, your infoe is sold to "lead provider's" who then sell your information to whoever has a vehicle similar to the one you inquired about.
