How to enable the Back & Forward buttons on the Toolbar?

Problem with toolbar Mail buttion and Sym AV 10.1?

  • When I access mail via the toolbar button, many times Yahoo mail becomes erratic and/or IE mail window buttons do not work at all. If I disable anti virus, and hit refresh or back, all is better again. Then I can re-enable anti virus, and do not run into problem any more. I am running Sony Laptop VGN S360P, XP Pro with SP3, Symantec anti virus corp edition 10.1.5.5000, and IE6. I have added Yahoo and Google toolbars. I did update to IE7 with no change. I have also restored my computer to sony factory defaults, then added only select programs, also with no effect. All s/w versions are updated for version running and I do not want to upgrade to vista, IE 7 or 8. I can trash Symantec AV and go with McAfee free via Comcast. If I access mail directly via normal methods (non-toolbar) I do not run into these problems. I have verified this multiple times. It seems to be worse if I have more than one IE window open. Any Ideas ??????? Thanks, Bill

Click the Y! toolbar Settings button (avatar) and click Forums and Feedback. In the suggestion box enter Norton and click Find. You should get one hit on Norton and e-mail problem. You might get lucky and find something in Yahoo! Answers under the Category Yahoo! Mail. Don't know. Have a good day.

I don't have any experience with the Symantec Corporate versions. I believe that Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL check their e-mail for viruses (I am not 100% sure). Do you have the capability to turn off hotmail virus checking with Sym AV? I was impressed by your thorough analysis of the problem and I was thinking that maybe some of the Y! e-mail problems posted by Questioners here under Y! toolbar may be the result of running Symantec Anti-virus software suites. I would suggest installing the Microsoft, Google and AOL toolbars under IE 8 and see if similar problems occur using those toolbars. If they fail the same way as with the Y! toolbar under IE 8, it might provide more leverage for Symantec to fix the problem. I think you are looking for reports of similar problems. Unfortunately, very few people post their hardware and software configuration under Y! Answers.
