How do I get rid of yahoo 7?

How to get rid of Yahoo! Toolbar (aka, Yahoo malware)?

  • I installed Yahoo! Messenger in Windows 2000 using a non-admin account. That worked fine, other than that the "option" to install other products never appeared, I was forced to install the Yahoo! Toolbar too. I then could not uninstall without going to the admin account. So I logged in with the admin account and uninstalled it. But guess what? The Yahoo! malware (toolbar) was still there in Firefox. How can I *really* get rid of this piece of crap, and why does Yahoo! distribute such malware to begin with?

I don't have experience with Firefox, but if there's a way to manage Browser Helper Objects (BHOs) in Firefox like there is in IE 7 you could try disabling or removing that way - through Firefox. In IE 7 you can also look at "Downloaded Program Files" through the Tools->Internet Options->Settings(under Browsing History)->View Objects. This shows the ActiveX controls that IE 7 uses. If there's an equivalent in Firefox, you could try that. (I don't even know if Firefox uses ActiveX controls, but there may be something similar.) Are you sure you uninstalled ALL the "Yahoo Toolbar" entries from the Add/Remove Programs list? In the worst case, you should be able to suppress the display of the Yahoo! Toolbar from within Firefox. In IE, this is done using the View->Toolbars menu sequence. I feel your pain on this... I consider the Google Toolbar in the same way. Why does everybody want to give that toolbar out? It's kind of viral. Good luck.

Quite right! Try settings! Add or remove. Sometimes might be other parts to it need removing first. Got to be careful removing stuff... maybe Yahoo want to rule the world, be up for election next ugh!!!

Maybe I can share alittle about my yahoo messenger experience. When I took my PC into Best Buy to have them repair it for a virus, they informed me that the yahoo messenger when downloaded, they add all kinds of "stuff" to your programs which are very hard to delete. If you want to get rid of the toolbar, go to control panel, and select add/remove programs and select yahoo toolbar. Remove that and look for any other programs that are unfamiliar.

In your Add/Remove in your Control Panel will be a "Yahoo Toolbar" remove it.
