What are bookmarks and how do they work?

How do I get my Bookmarks with Toolbar, when I work ONLY on shared computers?

  • Yahoo is saying that by October 20, 2011, my Bookmarks will be available "exclusively" by way of Yahoo Toolbars. I've tried three times, and I cannot install toolbars. I suspect this is because I use public computers. Even if I succeeded in downloading and installing Toolbars on one public computer, it won't be any others, will it? Does that mean that in two days, I won't be able to get my Bookmarks? Yahoo keeps claiming that I will be able to access my Bookmarks anywhere I have Internet connection. I've been able to do that all along. Am I going to lose access to all my Bookmarks, with this improvement?

  • Answer:

When Yahoo! Bookmarks was in transition they implied that you would need to have the Yahoo! Toolbar for the best Bookmarks experience. However, my testing shows that you can still get to your Yahoo! Bookmarks directly using the following address/link: http://bookmarks.yahoo.com/ Again, you DON'T have to install the Y! Toolbar. This should help you out on shared or public use PCs - as well as any other device connected to the internet, like smart phones, tablets, etc. Granted, this may not be the most convenient way to get to Bookmarks, but it is still available as an option - Yahoo! made it sound like that option would no longer work. There are still obvious issues with the new site. One thing generating lots of questions is how to order the bookmarks. There appears to be a sort option (by date or title), but the result of clicking these options is unpredictable - and the order does not seem to preserved for the Bookmarks app dropdown menu. Another thing I've found is that I had to re-do my Quick List - it was empty after the new site went live. Also, it appears as if some users have lost their saved bookmarks completely. I don't know what's going on there, since mine seemed to transition without any serious problems. It's going to take Yahoo! some time to iron out the bugs. In the meantime, I'd suggest using their "Tell us what you think" link to do just that.
