How do I change my default search engine?

How can I change my default search engine? (firefox)?

  • So apparently while downloading some crappy freeware app, I managed to leave a box checked that installed an ask.com toolbar (which I uninstalled) and changed my default search engine to ask. So whenever I type a word into my address bar it automatically assumes I want to search for that word with ask.com. Before this happened it would by default put the word into google if I didn't have any keyword phrases before it (i.e "g example"), and I have no idea how to change this back to normal. I remember how to change it with Firefox 2 but it has changed for version 3.0 and I haven't had to bother since then. Oh... I'm not talking about the integrated search bar, since someone always has to mention it.

  • Answer:

Hi!!!! ✔ Type about:config in Firefox location bar and press enter ✔ Click the button ✔ Type keyword in filter textbox and you´ll see only the preference ❛browser.search.defaultenginename❜ ✔ Double-click on keyword.URL and change the value to: ✔ To enable ❛ask.com❜as default, from Firefox input the following string for the value of ❛Keyword.URL❜: http://www.ask.com/?o=312&l=dir Have a great day!!!!

On the left side of the search box is a dropdown menu. Drop down and select Google. If Google is gone select "manage search engines" and add the ones you want.
