What will my background check show about my previous employment?

Will a background check show ALL PREVIOUSE PLACES OF EMPLOYMENT?

  • i just got the position for a job and they did a background check and forgot to put down one of my past employers, will affect me from getting the job? Should I just tell them that I forget to put it down? Need Suggestions please?

  • Answer:

No centralized database exists where a private sector employer can input your name/SSN and get past employment history. However, they can notice gaps in employment dates once they verify with former employers. Rather than wait for them to ask you as to why you omitted a past employer, simply let them know you plain forgot. That fact alone will show them your true character and honesty. Besides, if they are looking for grounds to dismiss/layoff personnel - they may use that against you.

This depends if the company runs a credit check, they would see an obvious gap.. and on your resume there would also be a gap.. they might ask you about it or just write you off then and there.. some HRs don't really mind employment gaps, they are more concerned about finding out if you have any criminal records or not..
