How do I delete my computer history?

How to erase/delete search history (vista home, and IE 8 is what I have on my computer)?

  • I can not find how to erase the history of things I have searched for on the internet. Also the list of where (site) I have visited is there and I can not find how or where to erase it. I used to be able to just click on "erase history" or some such thing. But had my computer worked on and when the tech reloaded, he has me using miscrosoft msn as my home page and search. Which msn uses Bing for their search. I can not find where or how to clear them. I do have a google tool bar also. It was not loaded when I got it back from being worked on. When I downloaded either AVG or Adobe/Acrobat it was part of the download. I used to be able to erase/clear it when I was using it for my home page and main search tool. I do use the safety and it has the delete browsing history. It will show and say it is deleting, but when I look, the search windows still have all the places I have visited listed. How do I clear/delete the browsing history and where I have visited?

  • Answer:

I think, if I understand your question, you want to be able to 1)clear/delete the history of the web pages you've visited AND get your "Delete History" button back To clear history: *In your menu, go to TOOLS >> DELETE BROWSING HISTORY *Now, select/check the items you want to be deleted. In your case, I would select "TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES", "COOKIES" AND "HISTORY". Also, take a look at the other items available for selection, and read the description by each. You may want to clear/delete additional information as well. To add a "Delete History" button back to your toolbar: *In the toolbar area of your browser window, look for "TOOLS" (not the one in the menu). If you don't see this try going to your menu, go to VIEW>>TOOLBARS and make sure that there is a checkmark beside the "COMMAND BAR". You should now see another bar appear that includes the a "TOOLS" menu *Now, go to TOOLS >> TOOLBARS >> CUSTOMIZE *In the window that pops up, look in the "Available Toolbar Buttons" menu to the left, and find the one that says "Delete Browsing History" and select it. *Click the button that says "ADD". It should now be in the list of items in the right column, which means it's now available for you to click in your browser window. You can also change the order in which items appear by using the "Move Up" and "Move Down" button also seen in this "Customize" window, while it's still open. 2)get your google home page and search back To change your home page to google: *In your menu, go to TOOLS >> INTERNET OPTIONS >> GENERAL tab *At the top, it says HOME PAGE. Replace the link that's in the box with http://www.google.com/ and click OK. Now your home page is set to Google. To change your search bar to google: *Go to http://www.ieaddons.com/en/search/?search=google *Look for "Google Search Suggestions" and click the "Add to Internet Explorer" button. *Now look at the top right of your browser window and click the downward facing triangle next to your search box. Look for "Google" and click it. Your search box is now set for Google searches. I hope that helps!

And I've found that on every site, they work the same: cursor in box, arrow down, highlight, delete, repeat. If the arrow down doesn't get anything, try typing a letter or few to see whether "suggestions" come up, and go from there. If you still get nothing, your choice of Internet search would seem to not be saving your searches (or, at least, not saving them in a place you can look at.)
