Why can't I delete my history?

Why cant I fully delete my internet history?

  • I have it setup so it deletes my history whenever I close the browser.. I even go into options and delete history manually, But it still comes up showing all my recent sites in the dropdown search engine bar. I've right clicked,DELETED,closed browser, pop it back up and they are THERE again. How do I completely whipe out all the sites I've gone to and is there a permanent way to do it? Thanks

I had the same problem. 1. You have to know that the browser's cleaning settings can not delete your all Internet history because this history is in co called Index.dat files (they are used by Internet Explorer and Windows to store history, Internet cache, cookiesand other browsing tracks). Cleaning of the index.dat files is not an easy task because they are opened by Internet Explorer (or other browser) and Windows all the time. If you are using an ancient Windows Me, Windows 98 or 95 system, you can restart in DOS mode and then you can delete index.dat files one by one. However if you are using Windows 7,Vista, XP this won't work. 2. I googled a while time ago (I think that the phrase was 'delete history') and find Mil shield, a program that cleans automatically all search & URL history, cookies too, etc. without any system damages.
