How to clear search engine history?

How do i clear the history from my yahoo search engine? please?

  • every time i type in a letter streams names come up on the page. i want to clear the history

  • Answer:

I assume your talking about the search box (drop down menu). when you type in a letter all the past searches are showing. If this is a correct assumption all you need to do is click on the empty search box to allow it to open and place your arrow over the first item (do not click it). it should highlight it'self now just hit the delete button on your keyboard and it will be gone and the next item should come up highlighted keep hitting the delete on your keyboard and the items will vanish. hope this has helped. and by the way it will work will all drop down menus.

IE6: Tools > Internet Options > Content > AutoComplete > Clear Forms. This will clear out ALL your autocompleted forms, such as search windows, form fill-ins, etc. You can also reset your Auto-Complete options here. Other browsers have something similar, you just need to find it! Or, to delete just a single (or a few) searches, just have them highlighted in the drop-down list and hit DELETE -- they will vanish! If you hold down the key, the whole drop-down list of searches will delete. If you are using the Yahoo! Toolbar, I believe there is a drop-down box at the end of the search window that has the option to CLEAR SEARCHES on it. BTW, clearing your history, as some people may suggest to do, only clears out the PAGE locations that you have recently visited, NOT the searches!!

There are other ways, but the directions will be different depending on which browser you're using. This works no matter which browser you are using. If you want to clear the searches from the search box menu on Yahoo or Google pages, double click the search box, this will make a menu drop down with your searches, put your cursor on what you want to delete to highlight it, hit the delete button on your keyboard. If you want to delete everything just hold the delete button down until everything is deleted. If you want to clear the search history and disable the feature entirely so none of your searches are saved, do the following: Internet Explorer 6 To clear the search box history on Yahoo! and Google pages > on Internet Explorer toolbar click Tools > Internet Options > Content tab > under Personal information, click the AutoComplete box, on the AutoComplete Settings window click the Clear Forms box to delete your current history, or you can uncheck the Forms box to permanently stop the generation of the search history, click OK. Internet Explorer 7 To clear the search box history on Yahoo! and Google pages > on Internet Explorer toolbar click Tools > Internet Options > on the General tab under Browsing History, click Delete > in the dialogue window that opens click Delete Forms > click Apply and OK. On Internet Explorer 7, to stop the generation of the search box history on Yahoo! and Google pages, click Tools > Internet Options > Content tab > under AutoComplete, click Settings and uncheck the Forms box > click OK. To clear the searches on Yahoo Toolbar: If you have the older Yahoo! Toolbar, click the pencil icon beside the search box and click Clear Recent Searches. If you have the the new Yahoo! Toolbar, click the down arrow beside the avatar icon located next to the Bookmarks Button and click Clear Recent Searches.
