What is cgi.ebay.com (vs. ebay.com?) is it an Ebay Imposter?

I stumbled upon a site that looks exactly like ebay, and sent a link to my dad to look at a product for sale, when he went back a few days later straight to the ebay site to search for it, he could no longer find it, so I pulled up the link and realized it was cgi.ebay.com .... not just ebay.com.... is it an imposter? i cannot tell from playing around on the site...

I just did a Live Chat with ebay. They said that they don't know the meaning of "cgi" but any link that says egi.ebay.com is a legitimate link to ebay. I asked if it signaled that the link was to an ebay "store" instead of to an ebay auction. They said no; it does not mean that the link is to a store.

When you sign in with your ID the URL has cgi in the address. It is part of Ebay's legitimate site address.
