How to pay house tax for a new apartment in chennai?

• hi guys, i bought a new apartment in medavakkam,chennai. iam planning to pay the house tax or property tax, so i approached the village panchayat office. in the enquiry they told me i have to pay 1500 rs assessment fees + 1200 rs for tax of previous and current year. i dont want to give any bribe to them. so can anyone tell me the procedure for this for paying house tax?

  House tax is payable from the date of taking possession of house & not for earlier year.It depends on the size & locality of the house.There is self asses- sment form in our area.Find out from senior officer the rules in your area.It appears they are expecting bribe for one year amount & will show the occupation from the current year.This is a usual tricks they are adopting.
