I need a student visa to England?

Do I need a student visa to study abroad?

  • I am planning on studying in England this upcoming spring semester (2012). Therefore, I will be in England from early January to late-June/early July. Do I need to apply for a student visa before I depart?

  • Answer:

I don't know about WEP, but I suggest you check out www.best-student-exchange.com, because they have hundreds of families online who want ot exchange and you can stay in different countries with various families (like family-hopping) and best of all: the price is peanuts compared to usual agencies, because you arrange the exchange yourself and with that you save thousands of $. So I think it is the best program out there. I went to Europe and it rocked!

In the UK you can study a course lasting up to 6 months as a student visitor, i.e. without applying for a visa. However, If you want to study in the UK for more than 6 months (which from the sounds of it there's a possibility you may go over the 6 month mark) and/or you want to work at all while you're there, you need to get a visa under Tier 4 of the points-based system. Speaking from experience, even students who don't think they will be there for more than 6 months usually still apply for a Tier 4 student visa.
