Can an English student study at an American university?

British student wanting to study at an American College/University?

I'm an 18 year old British male, I would like to study at an American College as a foreign student. It would be highly appreciated if anyone could give me any information regarding the procedure for this, financial issues and what kinds of tests I would need to take. Also any ideas on which universities are good ones to apply to. I'm not at an Ivy League level of intelligence but I'm not looking for a community college.
