What is the People to People Student Ambassadors?

People to People Student Ambassadors - Summer 2009 NY?

  • I've been accepted to go on the People to People Student Ambassadors Program this upcoming summer, but I have not attended the informational meeting yet. I was wondering where the group is going to this year. From what I understand, several groups from around the country go to different places (i.e., students from the West Coast go to Europe, those from the East Coast go to Australia, etc.) So really, I was wondering, where would I be going if I should choose to go? Oh, and I'm from New York.

  • Answer:

You've been accepted or just received the letter saying you were "nominated" for this great honor of being a "student ambassador"? I'm sorry, those letters are little more than advertising ploys and are sent to thousands of students each year -- just look up here, I must have seen 20+ questions about them in the past couple of days. Trust me, you're not particularly special to have received this letter. While P 2 P does put on a decent trip, it's very overpriced and is no where near to being an "exchange" experience! If you just want to have fun and can afford it, go for it. A better use of your money however would be to take a semester (or better yet) year exchange to another country where you can be fully immersed in the language and culture. Your P 2 P fees would pay for a substantial portion of it. Just something to think about!

As I understand it, the domestic trips with this organization cost between $2,000 and $3,000. Considering the issues, complaints, and the actual DEATH of a diabetic child who was denied healthcare when he requested it on a Japan trip last year, it is my opinion that the trips are overpriced and the staff undercaring. My son and I BOTH enrolled in a NY/Washington DC tour through Smithsonian Student Travel for next summer. The cost for BOTH of us is around $3,400 excluding our daily lunches. You should check their website and see if there is a tour departing from your town you could enroll in or if you can join another tour from another town.

Mine was Europe and i live in California.. it cost from 4,000 to 6,000 dollars i heard. You would probably being going to Australia. But does anyone know if they offer financial aid?
