How to apply for grants to study a foreign language abroad?

Study abroad grants?

  • I'm trying to do a high school study abroad during my junior year to Japan. But money is the only thing that is in my way. I have looked at many grants and scholarship, but I really don't know which one is best for me. I have gone to grants.gov and registering there was very confusing but I am still trying. In grants.gov it said that they can give grants to individual. Does anyone think that the government would be willing giving grants to someone who wants to go study outside of the United States? Or has anyone has this experience trying to get grants from the government for this reason? Please share.

I actually applied for financial aid through my program (AFS) and they wound up paying for six of the ten thousand it cost to go abroad for a year.
