Is it a good idea to study abroad?

My bf is currently unemployed. Should he come with me to France while I study abroad. Is it a good idea?

  • I have been planning to study abroad since freshman year in college. Now I m a senior and I expect to go to France for a semester. I have 4 months with my bf and since he is currently unemployed and does not go to school, I asked him to come with me for the semester. He is hoping to save money this summer to pay his expenses abroad. Our main plan is to travel and have crazy adventures. He also said that he will try to get a job in France. I don't know what should I do? Should he go to France with me?

    No, please don't take him with you! Take it from someone who studied abroad with her boyfriend who wasn't unemployed. I know you're afraid to be without him, and you're worried that you'll miss him, but if he loves you and supports you then he'll respect you to go without him, and it will work. This is a once in a lifetime oppotunity, you only get to study abroad once in your life, and once you're a working adult it doesn't happen. Please don't take him with you, you'll regret it. If you guys last then together you can go back to Europe someday. Studying abroad is YOUR experience, and there's no way he'll be able to get a job. There's a lot of paperwork you have to do in order to work overseas, it doesn't just happen like that. So please, I can guarantee, you might not think so now, but if you do go with him you'll regret it. I wish someone had told me that before I studied abroad with my boyfriend, and at the time we had been together for 2 years, and I thought I was going to marry him.

NO!! the main reason for studying abroad is to become a little INDEPENDENT! you are not getting any independence by taking your BF to FRANCE! :) Thats a no for sure... let him stay and look for a job

No he shouldn't ! He's going to hold you back. Many girls I know who study abroad have so much fun at night just going out with the girls and the new friends you meet. This is a life experience and you meet tons of new people. I'm not saying you're going to cheat on your boyfriend but feeling obligated to spend time with him because he's tagged along is going to hold you back from meeting new people and enjoying the true experience! I almost suggest taking a break with your boyfriend. A lot of times boyfriends get needy or jealous while you're in France enjoying life and meeting new people. It could cause strains in the relationship. I know several friends who have broken up during the time abroad and then gotten back together when they get back if this guy is truly the one for you!

No. I'm assuming your going over there to learn and become fluent in French. Have fun while you're over there. Don't let him drag you down. He will NOT get a job in France, I can guaruntee that. It's part of the EU and you basically have to live there/ be born there if you want a job.

He won't be able to get a job in France. He have to have a work permit. The only way your boyfriend get a job in France if someone offers him a job. Huge different between a tourist visa and a work visa. he caught looking for work on a tourist visa he will be deported and black mark on his passport.
