How to do a foreign exchange/study abroad when in the UK?
-
Hello lovely people of Yahoo, So here's my predicament. I'm currently 15, in my last year of secondary school in the UK. It's around this time we're questioned about how we're going to unfold the rest of our lives - further education and whatnot - by the school. I was doing some research and came across a group of stories and information about American college age people who had done or were doing a foreign exchange (it was a long detour). Now, this got me thinking that it's possibly something I'd like to do in a few years or earlier depending on the circumstances. So, I tried to do some research into these type of programs that take students from the UK and have them live abroad, and Google failed me. So, of course, if Google fails...I don't really know where to look. I tried my local library earlier this evening but that had nothing either. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places or something, but it's looking unlikely I'm going to find anything. I've been searching the 'net for 2 hours now with as many variations as I can possibly think of to try and unearth something but I've run out. Here, I thought I would turn to you lovely people and see if you could magic up anything for me :) SO MY QUESTION HERE IS; Are there any programs for a foreign exchange/study here in the UK, similar to those in the US where you stay with a host family for up to a year? If not, what is the closest and best alternative? For a bit of side info. to detail a bit more, I've been studying French since I was in nursery - on and off through out primary school, consistently for the 5 years I've been in secondary school - but I am also interested in many other cultures, primarily Japan. I don't know why, I've just ALWAYS loved Japan. Hosting an exchange student from another country isn't really an option currently but I'm not sure how that will pan out. I'm looking to maybe do this in the gap between college/sixth form (it's more likely than not I'm going) and university (should I choose to attend), though it really is only a maybe, as I need more information and things change (obviously). Please forgive my wiffle-waffle/over-use of grammar/disjointed question structure/stupidity/etc. Thank you in advance :) Love and warm hugs, Shia <3
