Can I have a second bachelor's degree in the USA?

If you obtain a Bachelors degree in canada does it also give you credit for the USA?

  • I didnt know how to phrase my question but here it goes. Im currently a US Citizen student in california and i just graduated from my first half of college completing most of my GED requirements and got my AA degree. I applied to University of Manitoba and got accepted to the Faculty of Arts program because i wanna pursue the field of Psychology and get my Bachelors in Psych or Arts. I was planning on maybe coming back here into the USA and joining the airforce after i obtained my bachelors degree so they could pay for my graduates school and ill of course work for them. But i was wondering if even though i earned a Bachelors degree in canada is it the samething as earning a bachelors degree in the US? Or is it better or less? Help please any info would be nice.

  • Answer:

Canada is home to more than 90 universities and 150 colleges ranging from small liberal arts schools to major research institutions. More than 10,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional degree programs are offered throughout the country. Over 130,000 international students attend postsecondary Canadian schools each year, which adds to the rich culture of the country and its classrooms. Like in the U.S., your general educaation credits should be transferrable to the Canadian university. One of the greatest differences between the American and Canadian postsecondary educational systems is the terminology. In Canada, ‘college’ typically refers to a two-year school that awards diplomas and certificates similar to a junior or community college in the United States. A Canadian ‘university’ is where students go to obtain a 4-year bachelor's degree similar to one obtained at a college or university in the United States. In other words, In Canada the two terms (college and university) are not interchangeable. Most (if not all) Canadian universities are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education which makes U.S. Citizens eligible for the Stafford Student Loan and their parents eligible for the Parents PLUS Loan. So absolutely your Canadian BS degree from a recognized school will be recognized in the United States and by our military. It's the same thing. It costs less in Canada though. Canada only has about a dozen universities (excluding special religious ones). They're all pretty good. Toronto and McGill (in Montreal) are usually considered the best all around universities. Lots of Canadians get degrees in Canada and then move to the US. I also know of a number of US citizens coming up to Canada for their degrees just because the cost was so much cheaper. They had no problem moving back to the United States and getting jobs.
