How hard to study medicine in the US?

Is it better to study medicine in the US or UK?

  • Hi! I'm a junior college student in Singapore and I'm going to take my A levels next year. I was planning on taking SATs this year and probably transfer out and get into a university to study medicine. I was thinking over where I should study. I kinda want to go to the states but it seems that it takes too long to graduate since you have to take premed first before you go to med school AND THEN you go for specialty and residency. Whereas, in UK, you can get to save about two years. It would be really great if you guys can share what you think I should do. Thanks :)

  • Answer:

Pre-med is just an undergraduate track; certain courses you should take, such as biology, anatomy, etc... The US has more schools to choose from. You'd only be saving a year between US and UK undergraduate degrees.

US is best - I'm a medical student in the UK. You may do it in 8 years in the US and 6 years in the UK, however training after your degree in the US can be 4 years in the UK it's always 6 +.
