Which good universities can I get into in the UK with average grades?

Can I get into any good UK Universities with these grades?

  • I'm from the Caribbean. I would like to apply for entry to a UK University in 2009. I'd like to do one of four things, Law(LLB course) or law with french or law with psychology or... law with international relations. I'd really like to do an LLB course so that I would have the option of practicing law after. My Grades are a combination: GCE A Levels (Psychology (A), Law(C) and CAPE(our supposed replacement for GCE's), Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination subjects, French (2 units Grade 3) and Communication Studies (1 unit Grade 3). I have 8 CXC subjects(should be our equivalent of GCSE's), english and math included(grades 1 and 2 respectively). The reason for my asking is I'm applying through UCAS and I don't want to waste my applications applying to universities where I can't get in. I've already consulted the Times League Tables, but I'd still like to be sure of my options. I'd like to live in Romford, Essex with my Grandparents so any universities near there or possibly in London would be great. PLEASE HELP ME :(

  • Answer:

If you have a hunt on the UCAS website, there's a page on there which has the UCAS point equivalent of a wide range of international qualifications. If it's down there with associated UCAS points, then it counts. Then you just have to check with the universities that the subjects you have are acceptable for the course you want to apply for.

they may not go by what grades you have but what classes you have since it may differ over in another country. YOu need to ask the college/university if classes there are transferable or your classes are transferable to them.

It can be hard to get the top universities to accept certain qualifications. What I suggest is that you identify universities that you would be interested in near to your Grandparents and then ring the admissions department (you will find info on the university website) and ask them. If they can't tell you they will at least pass you on to someone within the correct department to speak to. You can rule out the ones that aren't going to take your qualifications before you complete the UCAS form. Good Luck

hmmm well with ur qualifications the best thing to do is to chek up the uni's u want (like the unis tht r good in ur intrest career) and chek wat they want in order to get into the uni

Try the website www.ucas.com. you click find a course then type in what you want to do. you can see every university offering that course and the requirements for that course.

Simple answer YES. I have seen people get into Uni with Ds and Es, you have nothing to worry about. BUT- have a look at the university entry requirements for the course you want. If they want AAB / AAA, then you may want to choose another uni altogether or apply only to unis which accept your grades like AAC/ ABC/ ABB/ ACC / BBB - however I am sure the law degree has high entry req. If you still think you would like to try for a better uni, you can choose 2 v.good unis - although they may not accept your AAC grades, you also have cape A Levels, so in total you have 5 A levels. You could also try to email the universities you are interested in before you apply, admissions will tell you if you meet their criteria.
