Which is the best university to study law?

  • I want to be a Corporate Lawyer in America, but I live in England. I've been told to do a degree here as English education is renowned around the world. The problem is, is there any university that can do Corporate Law which is acceptable in America? If so, what do I need to do (entry requirements) and what is the best option? I'd like to then study in America after studying here. What else is required? I know its a tough course and its a big competition for places but I'm so eager to do it, and I will try everything I can to be a corporate lawyer. I just don't know how to get there and would like to go to the best universities to do it. Also, is corporate law the same as business law in England? As I can only find business law on UCAS. Please help.. I would really like to know which courses are the best for me - I've heard an LLB is no good in America, but you must do JD, or LL.M to then proceed, but what's the difference and which do I do and what are the courses about - and where to study them? Also, is international law any good to be a corporate lawyer? Please help. Thank you.

  • Answer:

Oye. Law in the US is a graduate degree only. You need a bachelors degree to apply. There are a few other requirements, but you do not need to worry about all that just yet. Go to a UK uni. Get a bachelors degree - any subject. Once you are in the last year of your degree program, you can apply for a US law school. Your university grades and LSAT (law school admissions test) scores will determine what schools you can reasonably expect to attend. A couple thoughts. First, getting a law degree in the US will NOT allow you to work legally in the US. You will need to find a company/firm willing to sponsor you, which is extremely difficult . Second, corporate law is very competitive. You need to be in the top 1/3 of your class at a top (10 or 15) ranked school to even have a chance. When you a preparing to apply to a US law school in a couple years you need to think this through, because it may not be the smartest decision.
