What do i need to take in college?

WHAT STEPS DO I NEED TO TAKE TO GO TO COLLEGE IN AMERICA?

• right so my parents dont really know much about going to college abroad, so its down to me to research everything. i live in the UK and i am wanting to go to college in California. My family live in California, so that adds to the reasons why i want to go to college other there. i dont know if this is any use to you, but just to let you know, i plan on moving there in the future if possible. my mum has applied for a green card through her sister. Here in the UK we finish our high school education at 16 years old. and then you can go on to college / university. i am aware that in the US you guys dont finish high school until 18? because of this, what would i do? would a college still accept me at the age of 16? if not, how would i go about going to high school there ? i am really stuck on what steps to take / what to do. please help? any advice is much appreciated :)

  First off you need to be aware that school is much more expensive in the US than in the UK. Particularly as you would have to pay the rate for international students. You need the equivalent of a highschool degree of the US which is 12 years of schooling. I guess you can go the highschool in the US, but I don't know too many details about finding a school and getting a visa for it. You pretty much would have to go to a private school and pay for it. If you go to university they will charge you about $20 000 a year for tuition alone, and it can actually be as much as $40 000. In order to get a student visa for an university you would need to get accepted by an US university (details about applying can easily be found on the website of the specific university) and you would also have to show that you have sufficient funds at the very least for your first year of school. While on a student visa you cannot work except on campus, so don't expect to make more than pocket money. My advice is either go as an au-pair for a year if you just want to go abroad for a while. Or if you really want to study get your undergraduate degree in the UK and go to the US for a graduate degree. If you get accepted into a graduate program there may be ways where you can either teach or you may get some scholarship for tuition. Though it will depend on your subject, the school and also how good you are what the options in that regard are. Also once you have an undergrad degree it doesn't matter how old you are and how long you went to school before you went to university.
