GCE A level results to apply UK/ Aussie unis...?

• I will be sitting for my GCE A levels soon and I took my GCE O level 2 years ago. I am looking at UK courses like say Law. I read that most require AAA at A level and at least a B for English at GCE level. Could anyone enlighten me on what this means? You see, I am taking this additional subject 'General Paper' at GCE A level. Is this recognized in UK? Or the English at GCE O level is the only one recognized in UK? And how competitive it is to get into law schools or medical schools via undergraduate entry in UK/ Aussie? I know it is very competitive but could anyone elaborate more on that? Thanks a lot.

  The top universities in the UK require excellent A-levels scores. There are some courses at Cambridge that actually require students to have gained even higher grades than AAA such as A*AA. Some universities, as well as some less popular courses have lower requirements like AAB. Basically, the more sought after the degree, the more fierce is the competition to be admitted and this results in higher entry requirements. Degrees in law and medicine are in high demand and it is thus very competitive to get in so you should make sure you are up to it. As for the GCE English, I think this has to do with your O Levels. What the University is asking you to have is at least a B for English O Levels. General Paper is not generally considered a valid A-level subject. If you are taking 3 A-Levels and GP, you cannot consider it a fourth subject.
