How much money should I bring to Paris, France?

Some questions about study abroad in Paris, France?

  • I am most likely going to be spending from 4-6 weeks in France this summer through a study abroad program in order to get a better grasp on the language. This will be my first time leaving the US and I was hoping for some tips. My housing is already included, but I have to pay for food myself. How much [aprox.] money would I need if I were to eat out everyday for all meals? Also, how much should I bring for activities and souvenirs? Any other information about Paris, French etiquette and customs, places to see, things to do, and useful information would be appreciated! :D

  • Answer:

On the money; I suggest you take a US debit/atm card with you. This can be used either to get Euros out of the wall or to pay for things. Eating out all meals will cost you about 50 Euros a day. Take your cellphone with you and buy a pay as you go SIM card to put into it when you arrive. They are very cheap. Phone needs to be triband, (most are) and unlocked, of course. Take US two pin to Euro two pin converters with you (buy on line) for both your phone charger and for your laptop. Take both guide books and maps. Much cheaper to buy in US. Etiquette; don't chew gum and don't be loud. One other tip: do a French course before you go and take a dictionary.
