• Hi, Ive started to think about unis and courses and what i want to study etc.. and i came across a course called Liberal Arts which is available in America. I was wondering if someone could explain exactly what Liberal Art is??? Also Im very interested in the Ive League schools, BUT the American system is so different to the English system. Can anyone give me any information about them? I'm especially interested in Brown. Does anyone know what its like? Many thanks!

  Liberal Arts is a somewhat general degree...it does not necessarily open many doors by itself but is nonetheless very common. The Ivy League universities are the oldest and most exclusive schools in the U.S. Several of them were founded before the U.S, itself. In order to get into an Ivy League school as student essentially has to have straight As (4.0) GPA as well as very high scores on the ACT/SAT. I do not know anything specific about Brown, but I would say that generally Harvard is considered the most prestigious university in the USA, followed closely by Princeton, Yale, Columbia etc (in no particular order) Another option to consider are the highest rated of the American public universities including Northwestern (1hr drive north of Chicago), and University of Michigan (20 miles west of Detroit) Both of these and many others are very highly regarded, as well as being more open to students that are not part of the East Coast establishment. In summary, all of the Ivy League schools offer a world class education at a steep price, while other options provide a very respectable education at a more reasonable price with a greater chance of admission...
