Study abroad in England or America?
-
I'm going to study abroad but I JUST CANT DECIDE!? I really really really want to go to England, cuz I love everything England; the people, the weather (yup, i'm serious), the green-ness, the busses, the old feel, the shopping, etc. But I really wanna experience the American teen life too :S is it really like it is in the movies? many people say it is, but seriously how can it be? I'm from Denmark, so I guess England isn't THAT much different from where I come from, is it? What are some good things about going to England, and some good things about going to America??(:

There truly isn't a "best" answer. As you can see, each place has something to offer you. Where ever you choose to go will give you a life- learning experience. What you need to realize is that you can't go to either country with specific expectations. American teens may not be like in the movies. The purpose of going there is to find out how they really are. And of course, teens are different in different parts of America. You might find out that you truly don't love all things English. Some things you love, and some you hate. But that's a lesson in reality. I live in the States, and I've visited England a number of times. I have good friends in England, and they visit me frequently. Maybe, what you should do is compare the schools in each place. See which one fits your personality; which one has the subjects you want, the activities. Which is the better size for you. Make your choice on that basis. But whichever one you choose, it will still be a good choice, because it will expose you to something different. Incidentally, I loved my visit to Copenhagen. I don't know where you live in Denmark, but I've wanted to go back there and spend some time. Good luck to you. You're very lucky to have such an opportunity.

I live in England and was researching studying in America. Both have there ups and downs, but in short you need to consider what is best for you, how far you will be form home and the expense of going back for the holidays ect. It can also depend on what you want to study. Also there are so many different places in America one state is a life time apart from another, just because you like the idea of a teenage life style that maybe you have seen on TV dose in no way reflect what you might actually get. Look in to places that are good for the subjects you want, research the area that those institutes are in and then decide on the place you will have to live and study.

The thing about the US is that it's so HUGE, that there are major differences between, say, Boston and Miami, and Boston and Los Angeles, etc. The culture is quite different from one region to another. If you'd like a part of the US that's not all that unlike the UK, that'd be Boston. If you'd like a part of the US with a school that's kind of "as seen in the movies", I'd actually suggest U Florida. The UK, and its uni system, would be more like what you're used to in Denmark, in some ways. The US would be very different in feel - especially if you went someplace like Florida, Arizona, southern California, Texas - someplace that, culturally and geographically, is vastly different to Denmark. I mean, Arizona is a desert. Florida has palm trees and beaches. What would you like to experience? And then within each state, there are schools that are more studious, quiet, and peaceful, and schools that are a bit more like "woah, party party party! study for a bit. party!" For example, U Florida is a very good university, highly respected, academically, but with a MAJOR party scene, a huge "college football" scene, lots of "frats" - so in a way, kind of like what you've seen in the movies. But keep in mind that movies are fiction. It's really not quite like that. But why not try it? Try something different?
